How do I set up an electricity and/or gas connection for a new property?

You'll need to talk to your local network distributors to arrange a new connection – you'll have one local network distributor for electricity, and another for gas.

Find your local network distributors at energynetworks.org – just type in your postcode.

If you agree to go ahead with the connection, you'll need to pay for the works upfront. As soon as you've paid, your distributor will give you a unique supply number for your new property.

  • An electricity supply number is also known as a Meter Point Administration Number (MPAN)
  • A gas supply number is also called a Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN)

You'll need these supply numbers before you can set up an electricty and/or gas account with an energy supplier like EDF Energy.
