How do I change my monthly Direct Debit amount?

You can ask us to review your monthly Direct Debit amount by filling out a form online. But before you make the request, find out if it's the right thing to do:

How do you work out my Direct Debit amount?

Before you request us to change to your Direct Debit amount, here's a brief explanation of how we work it out:

First, we estimate how much energy we think you'll use over the next 12 months. We base our estimate on your previous energy consumption, by looking at your past meter readings. Then we look at your tariff, and work out what your estimated energy use will cost. Finally, we divide this total by 12, to spread the cost evenly through the year.

If your Direct Debit is set at the right amount, you'll build up enough credit over the summer to cover the higher cost of winter. So at the end of your billing year, you'll have paid the right amount for the energy you've used.

If your Direct Debit amount is too low, your account may be in debit at the end of your billing year, leaving you with an outstanding balance to pay.

If your Direct Debit amount is too high, your account may be in credit at the end of your billing year, and we will owe you money.
