Somerset Energy and Innovation Centre
The SEIC Café goes from strength to strength
The Somerset Energy Innovation Centre (SEIC), on the Bristol Road in Bridgwater, is a hub for businesses working at Hinkley Point C and within the wider low-carbon-energy sector.
As a base for 40 different businesses, and having worked with over 150 local companies to date, it is important that the centre’s café operator shares the aim of inspiring businesses to collaborate, innovate and deliver trailblazing projects.
A key ingredient of the Somerset Energy Innovation Centre’s success is our thriving café – a place for tenants and guests to meet, collaborate and enjoy some great local coffee and food.
Step forward The White Feather Coffee Co. Proprietor Holly Buckingham had left a full-time job to take her vision of delivering delicious, locally roasted coffee on the road. The connections she then formed with companies involved in the Hinkley supply chain brought her the initial offer of moving to the Somerset Energy Innovation Centre when it opened two years ago.
Holly made it her mission to serve great locally sourced food alongside her coffee, and, two years on, it is clear to see that Holly has taken The White Feather Coffee Co. from strength to strength.
The site at the SEIC has opened doors for further expansion – The White Feather Coffee Co. now has a second premises in the old Watergate Hotel on the river front in Bridgwater – and discussions with a Michelin-starred chef seem set to bring a bistro and brunch dimension to her local café offer.
“I’ve gone from being employed to starting a new business employing 17 staff, and now we have two great venues offering locally roasted coffee, locally produced food and a great atmosphere.”
Ben Powis, SEIC Director, said: “It’s been a fantastic journey working with Holly and seeing The White Feather Coffee Co. grow into a thriving business. Having a café operator that provides a great service to our tenants and business visitors is an essential part of our offer. You never know what new ideas and opportunities to collaborate are sparked when you meet up for a coffee“
Last words from Holly? “If you run a business and want to get involved in Hinkley Point C, there are opportunities. Get out there and get to know others involved in the project. It’s essential to network, partner, collaborate – and what better place to start than dropping into the Somerset Energy Innovation Centre for a coffee!“
