Types of training available

We want to equip current and future generations in Somerset with the skills they need to take advantage of the opportunities that this project will provide. That is why we're working closely with local training providers to maximise opportunities for people who live nearby. But other local residents can also take advantage of the opportunities that we have on offer. Opportunities exist across a broad range of work areas from construction and catering, to IT, healthcare and engineering. The Hinkley Point Training Agency works with employers and the Hinkley Point C Jobs Service to help people gain the right qualifications for employment. It brings together training providers from across the South West to deliver the skills needed for this project.

Whether you’re looking for your first job or you want to take a different career path, the team provides connections with tailored support to help you achieve it. You can download our Employment and Training Prospectus to read more about the many career and training options available.

Funding your training

We have invested almost £15 million to improve local education, training and skills provision. Our commitment ensures people are supported to find and take advantage of the project’s opportunities – helping students and local people secure new skills, training and jobs. There’s over £6 million going into local colleges, including investing in Bridgwater College’s Energy Skills Centre; developing a Construction Skills and Innovation Centre to provide a ‘one-stop-shop’ training service; and supporting the Hinkley Ready and Enterprise projects at West Somerset Community College.

Some training might also be eligible for funding support. For example, we are working on a pre-employment course for the Jobs Service to help people not in work get a taste of what working on the project is like. If you are interested in working at Hinkley Point C, contact the Jobs Service team who will assess your skills needs and work with us to provide the support you need.
