At Hinkley Point C we are building far more than just a power station – we will be leaving the local community with skills and opportunities for future generations. We are passionate about encouraging young people to get involved with the STEM subjects that will inspire them to be the next generation's engineers and scientists. So we've set up educational and skills programmes to do this, as well as working alongside schools and colleges providing materials and resources to give children and young people experience and inspiration.

Hinkley Point C will be the first new nuclear power station built in the UK for more than 20 years. Located on the North Somerset Coast it will power around 6 million homes with safe, secure and low carbon electricity.
One of the largest and most complex projects in Europe, it will take 10 years to complete and create some 25,000 employment opportunities. A project of this size involves a huge range of companies and people. At the peak of construction 5,600 people will be working at the site in over 400 different job types.
When complete, Hinkley Point C will also have an expected workforce of 900 people who will be needed to run the power station throughout its 60 years of operation.
We’re committed to creating a long-term sustainable workforce and we know the engineers and scientists of tomorrow are in the classrooms of today. That’s why our education programmes have been designed to prepare young people for the job opportunities that will come during operation as well as construction.
Apprenticeships are at the forefront of our workforce development and skills needs and we want to provide the best possible access and experience for all apprentices working and learning as part of the project. The majority of apprenticeships created will be through our primary contract partners - such as Bouygues, Laing O’Rourke, Costain, KierBam, Alstom and Areva – who will specify exact requirements and commitments for each apprentice.
