Funding for the local community

EDF Energy has set up a £20 million Community Fund to be spent on improvements for communities most affected by the development of Hinkley Point C. The first £7.2million of the fund - known as the CIM fund - is currently being administered by West Somerset Council and has already supported a number of exciting projects across Somerset.

Cannington

The Parish of Cannington has CIM fund money set aside for projects within their community. So far funding has been spent on new cricket equipment and the Village Hall improvement project.

Victoria Park

Victoria Park Community Centre in Bridgwater received funding towards a Digital Inclusion and Job Club which provides a safe and friendly environment to access the web for tasks such as job searches, learning computer skills, registering for welfare and benefits and much more. Westfield Church has also received funding to build a permanent Community Street Cafe.

Watchet

The village of Watchet has received funding for two projects. The football and cricket pavilion placed a successful bid for improvements to its facilities, whilst Watchet Boat Museum and Visitor Centre has been granted funds for an expansion to help provide visitors to the area with a new focal point and gateway into Watchet.

Wembdon

Wembdon Village Hall and Playing Fields committee have been granted money to support a project which will transform the local area with a new village hall and village green, sport facilities and fields, a new building for the local pre-school and even a wildlife area for the community.

Tropiquaria Zoo, Williton

In addition to the new primate enclosures, play equipment and a summer marketing campaign at Tropiquaria Zoo, the Parish of Williton has also received funding for a new sports and community pavilion.
