Our Employee Services team at EDF Energy is the first point of call for any employee or manager when it comes to all HR queries and support. As such, the team is critical to supporting the business, line managers and employees in all things HR. We pride ourselves on providing our business with fast, high quality HR advice and being part of this team will give you a unique and exciting opportunity to have a solid foundation in key HR areas such as Payroll, HR Advisory, Reporting and Recruitment.
- You’ll be on track to achieve or will have already achieved a 2:1 undergraduate or 2:2 postgraduate qualification preferably in an HR related discipline however other disciplines will be considered
- Professional verbal and written communication; diagnostic and analytical skills with the ability to listen actively, ask probing questions and analyse underlying requirements; apply sound judgement with confidence
- Excellent attention to detail and passion for accuracy; “right first time” mentality
- Willingness to own tasks and the resilience to work through issues to conclusion, maintaining motivation; natural desire to streamline processes
- Proven organisational skills, ability to work under pressure and manage multiple incoming activities and tasks through various channels; ability to define individual priorities and manage workload
- Strong IT skills

During your placement you will rotate between the various Employee Services functions every 6-8 weeks giving you great insight to the role each team plays in providing an exceptional service to the business.
Working with the AskHR Advisory team you will resolve incoming first line HR enquiries via email and telephone enquiries which will allow you to understand the great variety of policies and procedures we operate under, and how to respond to these.
Exposure to the back office HR processes in our Generalist HR & Absence teams will allow you to understand the engine behind large scale generalist HR processes, the work involved in every step of the way and the relentless energy we dedicate to caring for our employees absent from work.
Shadowing our Payroll team you will see how we manage a payroll run for approximately 13,000 employees every month, the challenges they might face and how they overcome these to ensure everyone is paid correctly and on time.
Within the Recruitment team you will experience how we partner with the business, understand their resourcing needs and fulfil their requirements. We will introduce you to our candidate management technology and you‘ll also have the opportunity to screen candidate CV’s, conduct telephone interviews and arrange face to face interviews for the managers. We’ll make sure you will spend some time with our Early Careers recruitment team as well, and perhaps attend one of our assessment centres.
You will be exposed to the importance of data, how reports are generated, what they look like, what we do with them and how we make decisions based on this data when you spend time with the Reporting team.
And if all of that is not enough you will also be able to spend time with our Performance Improvement team - this team is responsible for continuously driving improvement, but also lead on communication of our performance in Employee Services. Areas such as process and policy compliance, rationalisation and digitisation of processes and working with our suppliers and partners are high on our agenda today.
There may also be an opportunity to shadow our Regional Case Advisor team who manage the more complex HR queries that cannot be resolved at front line including long term sickness, grievances and disciplinaries.
Most of what you learn will be on the job, with support from your mentor and the teams you work in. Some Industrial Placements come with opportunities for further technical training as needed.

In the next stage of our process we will ask you to complete an online numerical reasoning test.
It’s not always easy to convey your best qualities and experiences in an online form. Get through the online stages and you’ll have the chance to tell us more about yourself during a short telephone interview. As well as giving evidence of the skills and qualities we’re looking for, you’ll be able to show us you’ve given careful thought to your career choice.
Impress us over the phone and you’ll be invited to a face to face interview. You’ll get to learn more about us, our culture, our people and our programmes. You'll also have the opportunity to demonstrate your capability and technical knowledge to the hiring team.

Following your verbal acceptance of our offer, our onboarding team will issue you with an offer letter and contract as well as completing pre-employment checks which will include a medical, references and security clearance. This process can take approximately 8 weeks to complete. Majority of our placements commence in early-September however depending on business needs and candidate availability, there may be an option to start before September providing you have satisfactorily completed pre-employment checks.
