EDF Energy’s Business Apprenticeship Scheme focuses on the commercial and non-technical aspects of supporting our operational sites and is designed to power your career within the energy industry. Upon completion of the scheme you will have gained valuable experience within the UK’s leading generator and supplier of low carbon energy.
You will receive formal training provided by external education providers and EDF Energy, with hands-on experience gained from your day to day role. Consisting of a number of rotations between three and six months long, the scheme is designed to give a rare insight into different parts of our Central Support functions.
- At least 3 A Levels (or equivalent) at grade C or above
- Have a genuine interest in nuclear energy
- A desire to learn and develop skills
Our Business Apprenticeship opportunities are within Nuclear Generation based in our Barnwood office in Gloucester. Barnwood is home to our central engineering support centre and is the perfect place to learn all about our business from the inside out.
Supporting the operation of EDF Energy’s existing fleet of nuclear power stations poses many unique commercial challenges. All of our Business Apprenticeships are based within the EDF Energy Central Technical Organisation, who with an annual spend of over £600m are at the core of ensuring that the power stations can operate safely and that the commercial arrangements deliver value for the organisation.
The Central Technical Office Business Apprenticeship Scheme currently has two vacancies where, for the duration of your apprenticeship you will be based at our office in Barnwood, Gloucester.
You will have the opportunity to develop business and commercial skills during this 3-4 year apprenticeship. This may also include an attachment to a power station where you’ll get first-hand experience of life at an operational site.
Our Business Apprentices perform valuable work and are highly regarded members of our team. In return for your commitment we give you the very best support available to help you succeed and ensure that you are given opportunities to shine throughout the two years and potentially beyond.
Successfully complete your apprenticeship and you’ll gain formal qualifications within a relevant apprenticeship standard potentially up to degree level. But it’s not all certificates and classroom learning. You’ll also be given extensive internal training, including a full company induction, training courses that cover the principles of Nuclear Generation and introductions to the nuclear industry. All of which is in addition to any job-specific training you need to shine in your department.
As well as a starting salary of around £13,103, all our apprentices are entitled to a pension scheme, 25 days holiday, with an additional 8 public holidays and a whole range of flexible benefits.
This Business Apprenticeship is the first step in development of a career within EDF Energy. At the end of the scheme, you’ll have strong business skills behind you, formal qualifications and a wealth of opportunities ahead.
