EDF Energy’s Business Apprenticeship Scheme is a training programme designed to power your career within the energy industry. Upon completion of the scheme you will have gained valuable experience within the UK’s leading generator and supplier of low carbon energy.

Dependent on the position you apply for, the EDF Energy Business Apprenticeship is 24 to 36 months in duration.  You will receive formal training provided by external education providers and EDF Energy, with hands-on experience gained from your day to day role. Consisting of a number of rotations between three and six months long, the scheme is designed to give a rare insight into different parts of our Central Support functions.

We currently have a number of Business Apprenticeship vacancies within Nuclear Generation based in our Barnwood office in Gloucester and for the first time at 2 of our Power Stations – Hinkley Point B (Somerset) and Hartlepool (Teesside).

Supporting the operation of EDF Energy’s existing fleet of nuclear power stations poses many unique engineering and commercial challenges. With an annual spend of over £600m the EDF Energy Central Technical Organisation is at the core of ensuring that the power stations can operate safely and that the commercial arrangements which underpin the operation deliver value for the organisation.

Our Business Apprenticeships focus on the commercial and non-technical aspects of our support to operational sites.

Supply Chain - Barnwood Office, Gloucester

The Business Apprenticeship Scheme currently has 2 vacancies within Supply Chain in Nuclear Generation where, for the duration of your apprenticeship you will be based at our office in Barnwood, Gloucester.  Barnwood is home to our central engineering support centre and is the perfect place to learn all about our business from the inside out.

You will have the opportunity to develop commercial skills and have the opportunity to travel to various power stations throughout the UK during this 2 year apprenticeship. This may also include a 12 week attachment to a power station where you’ll get first-hand experience of life at an operational site.

Successfully complete your Advanced Apprenticeship in Business and Administration and you’ll gain formal qualifications within a relevant apprenticeship framework. But it’s not all certificates and classroom learning. You’ll also be given extensive internal training, including a full company induction, training courses that cover the principles of Nuclear Generation and introductions to the nuclear industry. All of which is in addition to any job-specific training you need to shine in your department.
This Business Apprenticeship is the first step in development of a career within EDF Energy. At the end of the scheme, you’ll have strong business skills behind you, a wealth of opportunities ahead not to mention all the support you may need in achieving the skills and qualifications required in your future career.

Following the scheme there may be opportunities to take up a permanent role at any of our power stations or locations. If you are offered a permanent role upon completion of the scheme, it’s a requirement that you are willing to relocate.

The minimum requirements we ask for are that applicants have achieved (or are on track to achieve) at least 3 ALevels (or equivalent) at grade C or above, have a genuine interest in nuclear energy and the desire to learn and develop skills.

Central Technical Office - Barnwood Office, Gloucester

The Business Apprenticeship Scheme currently has a vacancy within our Nuclear Generation business where, for the duration of your apprenticeship you will be based at our office in Barnwood, Gloucester.  Barnwood is home to our central engineering support centre and is the perfect place to learn all about our business from the inside out.

You will have the opportunity to develop business and commercial skills during this 3 year apprenticeship. This may also include an attachment to a power station where you’ll get first-hand experience of life at an operational site.

As well as gaining excellent hand-on experience you will also be able to complete your Advanced Apprenticeship in Business and Administration alongside gaining formal qualifications up to degree level. But it’s not all certificates and classroom learning. You’ll also be given extensive internal training, including a full company induction, training courses that cover the principles of Nuclear Generation and introductions to the nuclear industry. All of which is in addition to any job-specific training you need to shine in your department.

Communications - Barnwood Office, Gloucester

A unique and exciting opportunity has become available within our Generation Communications Team for the first time in our Business Apprenticeship scheme.

The Generation Communications team are responsible for all internal communications and external relations for our offices and operational sites.  This position offers an excellent grounding in all aspects of communications with a particular focus on the making and production of video content for the business. You can expect to learn technical skills especially in the use of cameras, video and video production software, along with web editing technology.

As well as gaining hands-on experience you will work towards a recognised national qualification in communications and media such as the Chartered Institute of Public Relations Diploma or similar.

Applicants are required to have achieved (or are on track to achieve) at least 3 ALevels (or equivalent) at grade C or above, preferably in English, Maths and Media Studies or an associated subject.  If you meet our minimum requirements and have good written and oral communications skills and the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels then we want to hear from you.

Supply Chain - Hartlepool Power Station (Teesside)

There is a position within our Supply Chain team at Hartlepool Power Station, details to follow w/c 5th December.

Materials Technician within Supply Chain - Hinkley Point B Power Station (Somerset)

Become one of the first Business Apprentices within Supply Chain at Hinkley Point B and this could be your first step in a career within EDF Energy. 

You will spend 2 years learning from the team as part of the apprenticeship as a Materials Technician and, as well as getting valuable real world experience, you will study for a recognised qualification. You can expect on-the-job training, classroom learning and practical experience as part of “Team Hinkley” which will give you the confidence and satisfaction of being part of a successful forward looking team focused on safety and quality to support plant operations. 

Your apprenticeship will consist of a number of short assignments giving you an overview of the main Supply Chain functions and, with our support, you’ll study towards a Warehousing and Storage Level 2 Apprenticeship at Bridgwater College with the potential to go forward through to the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply qualifications beginning with the Certificate in Procurement and Supply Operations.

At the end of a successful apprenticeship you will be expected to move into a permanent role in the Supply Chain Department. 

All that we ask for are that applicants have achieved or are on track to achieve 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above (or Grade 4 and above in the new GCSE grading structure), including Maths and English Language plus one Science or Technical subject.
