A Smart new world

It’s been a while since Britain’s gas and electricity meters had an update. At the moment, most homes and businesses across Britain still have gas and electricity meters that use outdated technology designed decades ago. And they still have meter readings, estimated bills and confusing prices, too.

Smart Meters are changing this.

Gas and electricity suppliers across the country are replacing old meters with Smart Meters that come complete with a SMD (that’s a Smart Meter Display for those not in the know). Consumers will be able to see – practically in real-time – how much energy they’re using in pounds and pence. It will revolutionise how we use energy. We can monitor our energy consumption. We can save money. We can be more efficient. And we now need to recruit qualified and trainee Smart Meter Installers to help bring this new world to our customers.

Apply now

We currently have a number of vacancies for qualified gas and dual fuel Smart Meter installers.

Working as a Smart Meter Installer

Whether you’re joining as an experienced Smart Meter Installer or entering as a trainee, you’ll improve our customers’ experience and have the opportunity to learn new skills that will further your career.

Your role will be to safely install, maintain and remove meters in our customers’ homes, all within a specific timescale and whilst adhering to the relevant policies and procedures. Planning your work in advance, we’ll also look to you to help advise our customers on energy efficiency and safety, all whilst delivering an excellent level of customer service.

Capable of working both on your own and as part of a team, you’ll be able to work under pressure, be a good problem solver, and keep health and safety front of mind. An occupational requirement of the role means that you will need to have full colour vision too.

Full training will be provided for trainee Smart Meter Installers. For those who are Gas or Dual Fuel Qualified you will have access to training offered by our Campus network that will support your continued development.

Training

If you’re new to the industry to become a qualified electrical Smart Meter Installer, you will need to complete a programme of training at one of our many facilities across London, the South East or South West. Lasting around 45 days, training consists of a combination of classroom, technical workshop and assessment sessions, all delivered by our team of qualified trainers and assessors.

In addition to this, you will also be supported through a number of on-the-job mentoring days with a qualified Smart Metering Installer, which are woven into your training plan to help optimise your experience with us.

Once the assessment, mentoring and training have been successfully completed, we will then invite you to a series of competency interviews which once passed will leave you ready to work for us as a qualified electrical Smart Meter Installer.

For those joining as Gas and Dual Fuel Smart Meter Installers, trained to ACS Standards via a MOCOPA accredited training scheme, we’ll work with you to provide a programme of training that supports your continued professional development.
