UK INNOVATION AWARDS 2025
The UK Innovation Awards celebrate amazing innovations across the company.
55 applications were received, with 12 finalists invited to pitch on 8 October at Nova North. The four categories broadly align to the EDF Group strategy and our UK priorities, and the winners receive £500 for each category and entry into the prestigious EDF Group Pulse Awards, providing the opportunity for further recognition for outstanding contributions.
Simone Rossi, EDF UK CEO, announced the winners following an impressive pitch and special lunch celebration at Nova North:
Contributing to operational efficiency: Cloud carbon footprint
EDF’s use of cloud computing services like AWS is growing rapidly and comes with a carbon impact. This innovation found a way to carefully optimise our cloud resources, reducing carbon and cost.
Expanding flexibility to meet the needs of the electricity system: Flexing your home battery, it's that easy.
A collaboration between Retail, WMS and Dreev to use residential customers’ batteries to provide flexibility services, helping the grid and earning money for customers.
Helping our customers save money and carbon: Smart charging with EDF
A simple smart charging service offered as a bolt-on to any tariff. It saves money for the EV owner and opens the door to more flexibility services.
Producing more low-carbon electricity with nuclear and renewables: Smarter Predictions, Safer Power
A novel way to predict the degradation of graphite in our nuclear reactors with greater certainty.
This makes it easier to demonstrate the safety case and extend the life of our reactors.
David Ferguson, Head of UK R&D Innovation, organised the awards scheme and said: “Innovation is a day-to-day priority for EDF, with our people constantly solving problems and exploring new opportunities. The Innovation Awards recognise and celebrate the very best developments from across EDF UK.”
