Energy Assist is the first specialist energy social tariff for those most vulnerable households experiencing fuel poverty. An innovative response to this challenge, Energy Assist gives households a 15% discount on our current standard tariff prices.
We launched Energy Assist in 2006 and we recently announced that it will be extended until March 2009. More than 100,000 customers now benefit from this reduced tariff. We also help those customers with a benefit entitlement check by telephone, to help maximise their household income.
It’s easy for our customers to participate in Energy Assist: we can apply the tariff directly to households with standard and Economy 7 meters, while those with prepayment and complex metering automatically receive a rebate each year.
Through our social commitments, we have committed to offering a social tariff to our most vulnerable customers until 2012.
