Substations are danger zones. Every year, despite warnings, people are still killed or seriously injured after illegally entering them.

Substations are secure protected structures where high voltage electricity is distributed from the National Grid (or local supply networks) and transformed down into more manageable voltage levels for homes and businesses. They can be found in urban and rural areas and are clearly marked with yellow warning signs. They're locked and protected for everyone's safety.

Only authorised employees and supervised emergency workers are allowed to enter substations, to inspect and maintain the equipment inside.

We’re working with Neighbourhood Watch groups to help prevent vandalism and unauthorised entry, for the safety of our equipment and that of any potential intruders.
