We increase children’s awareness of the dangers posed by electricity by working with more than 100,000 primary and secondary school children every year

Our dedicated team of advisors give free interactive workshops for children aged between seven and fourteen, where they bring the National Curriculum on electricity to life. Students find out where electricity comes from and how it gets to our homes – and, vitally, how to stay safe around electricity.

The team also attend community safety events; these are local events organised for schools to take their students along for the day, like Crucial Crew and Junior Citizen. We work with the emergency services to create scenarios for children to play out, learning the best way to deal with hazards.

We’ve created a comprehensive website called Power up!, for teachers, parents and children.  It provides lesson plans for Key Stages 2 and 3 with related materials, plus information and guidance for parents. And there are games and interactive quizzes created just for children.

For the future, we’ll be doubling our commitment to our safety messages, ensuring we reach one million children, teachers and parents by 2012 as part of our social commitments.
