EDF Energy is one of the largest energy companies in the UK. We distribute electricity to a quarter of the UK population and employ around 12,000 people. We supply around 15% of the electricity used in UK homes and businesses. We also generate around 7% of UK power.

We are the largest electricity supplier for London, the south east and the south west of England and supply energy to around 5.1 million customers through our retail brands London Energy, Seeboard Energy, SWEB Energy and EDF Energy.

We own and manage the electricity distribution network covering the south and east of England and we operate coal-fired and gas-fired power stations, private CHP plants and wind farms.

In addition, we are also one of the largest private networks operators in the UK, having important contracts with BAA's Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports, the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, the London Underground and Canary Wharf.

The company is divided into four main branches:

• Customers Branch deals with our residential, SME and business customers. We are the UK's largest supplier to industrial and commercial customers
• Energy Branch manages our electricity generating portfolio and buys and sells electricity, gas and coal and operates in the energy markets.
• Networks Branch manages and operates our electricity distribution networks. Over a quarter of the UK's population depend on our networks for electricity.
• Development Branch focuses on developing, operating and maintaining privately owned major electrical infrastructure and providing energy services. Our most significant projects are linked to the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, the London Underground and Heathrow's Terminal Five.
• EDF Energy is a wholly owned subsidiary of the EDF SA, one of Europe's largest energy groups
