The EDF Energy Trust is an independent charitable trust governed by a board of independent volunteer trustees which has the twin objectives of relieving poverty now and reducing debt levels over the longer term.
It was established in recognition of the fact that some customers are unable to pay the arrears on their energy accounts and need help to tackle debts that have grown out of hand. It is an innovative approach to helping vulnerable people manage debt issues and make a fresh start.
The Trust independently issues grants to individuals and families in need (for energy debt and other essential household bills or costs) and to voluntary sector organisations (to boost money advice, debt counselling and energy efficiency advice services).
During 2004, we received 779 individual applications to the EDF Energy Trust. From these, individual grants were made totalling £118,071 and organisation grants were made totalling £571,073.
These figures represent Trust donations from October 2003 to December 2004 and in future will be reported for January to December.
During 2005, the Trust aims to increase the quality of grant applications and the number of grants awarded, particularly to those in the most deprived areas.
