Ambition 1: Customers

Residential Customers: Special Products

We have developed a range of focused products that answer the needs of specific groups of customers.

Green Tariff

Our Green Tariff provides residential customers with electricity generated from renewable sources and backed by LECs. At the end of 2004, 12,279 customers were signed up to our Green Tariff. Customers pay a premium into our Green Fund, which is then matched by EDF Energy. The fund distributes money to small-scale renewable energy projects. In 2004 the Fund gave money to:

Price Promise

In September 2004 we launched the Price Promise product. We promised to be cheaper on dual fuel than British Gas over the period from September 2004 to January 2006. A refund of double the difference, plus 1,000 Nectar points, was offered if we were to fail.

Price change exemption

Starting in April 2005 EDF Energy is offering to freeze prices until at least 31 March 2006 for its 250,000 customers 'most in need', primarily those customers classed as fuel poor. These customers will also be offered a free, independent benefits entitlement check through the EAGA Partnership.

Capped price product

EDF Energy has also launched a new capped price product for residential customers, which guarantees no further price increases before 31 March 2007. For under 50 pence per week extra the price is guaranteed not to rise during the period, and could go down. This offer, available to standard credit and Economy 7 customers, is open to the first 100,000 customers who apply before 31 March 2005.

Online product

In September 2004, EDF Energy launched a new, competitively priced, online product for residential customers. The product is available to out of area dual fuel direct debit customers and dual fuel credit customers with standard meters.

Home Heat Saver

Home Heat Saver was launched in May 2004 to residential customers under our three retail brands. The product offers customers the opportunity to install home insulation at significantly discounted prices (typically 70% off the supplier price). The customer pays for the home insulation through energy bills and can choose the payment period that best suits them (from twelve months to five years) at an interest-free rate.
