During a cold snap, many people turn up their heating a notch or two to keep warm, which can increase their fuel bills for that period.
But did you know that you or your friends and family might be eligible for help from the Government towards these extra fuel bill costs?
The scheme is available to people on certain benefits (find out more about who’s eligible). If you qualify, you could receive £25 whenever temperatures fall below 0°C for seven consecutive days. If a cold snap affects your area particularly badly, you could end up receiving more than one payment.
Cold weather payments are available between 1 November and 31 March and should be made automatically. Find out more
Additional Help
If you were born on or before 5 January 1951, you could qualify for a winter fuel payment of between £125 and £400 a year. Unlike cold weather payments, winter fuel payments are made every year, not just when the weather is very cold. Find out more
Terms & Conditions
Please note these payments are made by your local government. EDF Energy are not offering any customers or non-customers cold weather payments, but are simply making people aware they could benefit from them.
