Here are some of the innovation ideas EDF Energy is currently working on and some ideas that we will be looking into for the future
Time of use tariffs
Smart Metering will help you and us understand your energy needs better, which means that we will be able to 'tailor' your tariff around your usage. Currently, the latest tariff on offer is eco20:20 which gives you 20% cheaper electricity from 9pm to 7am weekdays and at weekends*.
Smart Appliances
In the future, your smart metering kit could be able to measure and display the energy usage of your ordinary appliances. This means that you will have more control over how you use your energy and what you spend on it. For example, if your TV has been left on ‘stand-by’ all day, you will be able to see what this has cost you in pounds and carbon dioxide emissions.
Smart Home
A smart home is a property that is fitted with control devices that means occupiers are able to remotely control and programme automated equipment such as heating controllers, security systems and smart equipped appliances.
*Eco20:20's off peak electricity unit rate (which applies between 10pm until 8 am BST (or - 9pm until 7am GMT) weekdays and all weekend) is currently 20% cheaper than EDF Energy's standard core electricity tariff. An EDF Energy customer with a typical annual electricity consumption (3,300kwh) and usage pattern, could save up to £37 by moving to Eco 20:20. By shifting more of your electricity usage to off peak times you could save even more. Eco20:20 tariff is always set to GMT times, this means that during British Summer Time your off-peak times will be 10pm until 8am on weekdays.
