Here’s some useful ways to help everyone stay warm, and cut their energy bills*.

6 simple things that can help with staying warm
• Main living areas should be kept between 18 ºC and 21ºC when occupied
• Hot water bottles or electric blankets can be used to warm beds (never use both together)
• A hot meal can help maintain body temperature
• Make sure heating systems are serviced annually by a Gas Safe Registered installer
• Wear lots of layers
• It’s good to stay active. Walking for a few minutes every hour helps keep the body warm
5 steps to help reduce energy bills
• Only heat the room you’re using. So heat the living room during the day and the bedroom just before going to bed
• Never leave things on standby or charging overnight. The Energy Saving Trust say that up to £30 a year can be saved by switching off electrical appliances when they’re not in use
• Close curtains at dusk to keep heat in. If you have long curtains, tuck them behind your radiators, not in front of them, so they don’t absorb all the heat
• Switch lights off and close doors when leaving a room
• Only boil as much water in the kettle as you need

‘It turned out my loft insulation was totally inadequate. The Priority Service Team were great. Because I get easily confused, they talked to the authorities about a grant. Then they called the installers and arranged everything’.
