Questions and answers
Thinking of switching to our Green Tariff but want to know more? We’ve provided some answers to the questions our customers frequently ask us, to help you make up your mind.
- What makes EDF Energy’s Green Tariff different from other green schemes?
-
Some “green” energy schemes promise to buy energy from renewable sources, others offer to fund renewable energy projects – Green Tariff does both.
- Why do you charge a premium for renewable energy?
-
In simple terms, to invest in renewable energy for the future. The premium we charge through Green Tariff goes directly into the Green Energy Fund for investment in renewable energy projects.
- What’s an energy carbon footprint?
-
Your energy carbon footprint is the amount of CO2 emissions emitted every year for the energy produced for you to use at home. Everything you do that involves the use of fossil fuels like coal, gas and oil – turning on a light, cooking a meal, taking a flight – has a carbon cost attached. Our Green tariff is designed to help you reduce out the CO2 emissions associated with the electricity you use at home, but there are other schemes available to help you balance or ‘offset’ carbon emissions associated with travel.
- Will the energy I use through Green Tariff actually come from renewable sources?
-
We can’t guarantee that output from specific generating plants will reach your home. However we can guarantee that every unit of electricity you use will be matched by our purchase of a unit generated from renewable technologies such as wind or water power.
- Will I need a new meter to switch to Green Tariff?
-
Absolutely not. Signing up to Green Tariff involves no changes to your meter or energy cabling.
