We’re here to help our customers in any way we can. We want to give you the information and advice you need to save energy at home and save cash too.

This payment method is available where Direct Debit or paying via a prepayment meter are unsuitable options. It might be the case that you do not have a bank account or you are unable to easily access your meter.

To be eligible for the Third Party Deductions scheme, you must:

  • have an active gas or electricity account
  • be in receipt of one of the below:
    • Income Support
    • Pension Credit
    • Employment Support Allowance
    • Income Based Jobseeker's Allowance
  • and have more than £67.00 of debt outstanding.

We will always discuss the benefits of each payment method with you to ensure that your repayment plan is the best one for your circumstances.

The EDF Energy Trust fund may also help alleviate your debt problems. Apply to the trust by completing the online application form, and an independent company will assess your circumstances and decide whether to award you a grant to repay your outstanding energy charges or make a further assistance payment. Application forms can be found at any Citizens Advice Bureau or you can request one by calling 01733 421021.

If you need help completing the Trust fund application form, the Citizens Advice Bureau can also help. Citizens Advice Bureau offer free, independent, and confidential debt advice and can be contacted on 0808 1566666.

What information do we require to set you up on the scheme?

• The name of your benefit.
• A current meter reading – we are only able to set you up on the scheme if we have billed you using a customer or meter man reading. We are unable to do this using an estimated reading.
• Confirmation that we have the correct spelling of your name.
• Your date of birth.
• Your National Insurance Number.

What are the benefits of paying by third party deductions?

• No need to worry about going out to make weekly payments.
• Arrears are set to be repaid at a low weekly rate.
• Prevents further debt building up.
• Opportunity to receive energy efficiency advice.

Contact EDF Energy on freephone 0800 269 450 to discuss Third Party Deductions as a payment option. We will ask you for the information detailed in the Information required? tab and calculate how much your weekly deductions will be. This will be based on ongoing consumption as well as your arrears.

Here's an example scenario:

Your outstanding balance is £100.00 = your weekly deduction from your benefit for this balance would be £3.40 per week

Your ongoing electricity consumption is £5.00 per week = your weekly deduction from your benefit would be £5.00 per week

Total weekly deduction = £8.40 per week
