There are many different methods of controlling the heat in your property, apart from manually turning off or turning down. Automating heating control makes the process more accurate and less of a chore.

How it works

Properly used heating controls will not only keep your home at a comfortable temperature but may save you money and energy by controlling when the heat is available.

The most common heating controls are:

  • A time programmer – this allows you to programme when the heating and hot water come on and go off again.
  • A room thermostat – this allows constant measurement of the air temperature in your home. It can be set to ensure the system provides comfortable heat (the heating must be on for this to work).
  • A combined programmable room thermostat – both of the above, used simultaneously to control the temperature within your home.
  • Thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) – fitted directly to the radiator, TRVs sense the air temperature around them and regulate water flow through the radiator to keep the temperature in the room at the desired level.

How it is installed

In most cases all of the heating control options outlined previously should be installed by an approved installer.
