Record wholesale energy costs lead to EDF Energy price rise

EDF Energy has today announced an increase to our Standard energy prices of 17% for electricity and 22% for gas, effective from 25 July 2008.

• Wholesale energy prices have risen to record highs with increases of up to 70% since our last price change in January.

• 100,000 most in need customers will benefit from 15% discount following major expansion of our social tariff. Over £11m to be spent on targeted help.

• We are investing £74m this year in improving housing insulation and on other energy efficiency measures to reduce customers bills, with £54m on those most in need customers.

• We are actively working with our customers to save energy as part of our ongoing Save Today Save Tomorrow campaign.

• Our new Price Protection 2009 tariff enables customers to fix their prices until October 2009, offering security and protection from possible future price increases in a volatile market.
