Final preparations are underway by sporting EDF Energy Networks staff, for a third charity day to raise funds for a children’s hospice.
The success of two similar events held at Wyboston Lakes in Bedfordshire has inspired EDF Energy employees to repeat the effort on July 23 at the new venue of The Stoke by Nayland Club on the Suffolk/Essex border.
There will be various fun activities on offer for participants, including golf and fishing competitions.
Proceeds will go towards Keech Hospice Care’s children’s services in Luton which supports children from across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Milton Keynes. Every year it costs £3million to run the children’s hospice, with only a quarter of that money coming from statutory sources.
The 10 organisers from the Stevenage area are giving their time as part of EDF Energy’s Helping Hands scheme. This scheme allows every member of staff at least two days’ company time a year to support local community and environmental projects.
EDF Energy Networks project manager David Trevallion, one of the organisers, said: “We’re into the final stages of preparations now so would like to hear from anyone who wants to take part on the day or help in any way. We already have more than 100 people signed up for the events, and 150 for the presentation meal in the evening, but there’s room for a few more!
Last year’s event raised £7,790 for the hospice in September and organisers hope the 2010 event will raise even more.
Paul Sutherland, from Keech Hospice Care, said: “EDF Energy Networks staff have been fantastic in their support for our children’s hospice. The dedicated team put a lot of effort into each of their events for us, which means they were one of our biggest financial supporters last year. We wish them well and look forward to continuing this successful ongoing relationship.”
If you can help by donating a raffle prize or funds, or would like to take part in the sports on July 23, please contact David on 07875 114826 or 01438 791295. He would also like to hear from any volunteer photographer who may be able to record the day and show pictures during the evening meal.

Notes to editors:
EDF Energy is one of the UK’s largest energy companies, producing around one-fifth of the nation's electricity from its nuclear, coal and gas power stations, as well as combined heat and power plants and wind farms. The company provides power to a quarter of the UK’s population via its electricity distribution networks and supplies gas and electricity to more than 5.5 million business and residential customers. It is the number one supplier of electricity to major business in the UK.
EDF Energy’s safe and secure operation of its eight existing nuclear power stations at sites across the country makes it the UK’s largest generator of low carbon electricity. EDF Energy is also leading the UK's nuclear renaissance and has published plans to build four new nuclear reactors, subject to the right investment framework. These new plants would generate enough low carbon electricity for about 40% of Britain’s homes. They would make an important contribution to the UK’s future needs for clean, secure and affordable energy. The project is already creating business and job opportunities for British companies and workers.
Through Our Climate and Social Commitments EDF Energy has launched the biggest environmental and social programme of any UK energy company. EDF is the official energy utilities partner and sustainability partner of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The company is also helping its customers and others use energy more sustainably through products and initiatives such as Read, Reduce, Reward and Team Green Britain.
EDF Energy is part of EDF Group, one of Europe’s largest power companies. Following the integration with British Energy in 2009, the company employs nearly 20,000 people at locations across the UK.
