Team Green Britain, founded by EDF Energy, celebrates the finale of its summer of inspiring green activity
13 July 2010
Summer sun, delicious food and great company are key ingredients for the perfect Sunday. Adding a great soundtrack to the mix is guaranteed to put smiles on faces, which is why DJ and Team Green Britain ambassador, Lauren Laverne has created her perfect playlist for this year’s Big Lunch on Sunday 18th July.
Across Britain, friends, families and communities will be getting together to host their own Big Lunches, as the finale to Team Green Britain’s summer of activity, encouraging people to think and act more green. Providing an appetising accompaniment to whatever is on the menu at The Big Lunch you’re planning, Lauren’s playlist is exclusively available now via www.teamgreenbritain.org/playlist.
Brought to you by EDF Energy, in partnership with The Big Lunch, Lauren’s exclusive Big Lunch playlist mixes together some classic tracks with uncovered treasures, finished with a sprinkling of mellow tunes to provide a hot soundtrack to a Sunday afternoon in July.
Lauren Laverne’s Big Lunch playlist:
1. Hung Up on a Dream - The Zombies
2. Village Green Preservation Society - The Kinks
3. The Swimming Song - Loudon Wainwright III
4. I Wanna Hold Your Hand - Al Green
5. Lazy Sunday - The Small Faces

As Team Green Britain’s Food ambassador, Lauren has been taking a low carbon approach to sourcing and cooking food and spreading the word about sustainable, low carbon living. From growing her own vegetables at home, to installing a wormery in her back garden, Lauren has been going back to the good life in her Team Green Britain food ambassador role.
Lauren Laverne says: ‘This summer, I’ve been learning about a low carbon approach to food as part of my ambassador role for Team Green Britain, founded by EDF Energy. I’ve created my Big Lunch playlist to celebrate the finale of Team Green Britain’s summer of inspiring activities, bringing everyone together to think and act green. This is a family-friendly playlist of old and new songs that should soundtrack a sunny afternoon of tea, cakes, sandwiches and laughing. All these songs sound particularly lovely in the sunshine, so if you’re planning to eat outside and lucky enough to get a sunny afternoon at your Big Lunch on 18th July, they should be perfect!”
Eva Eisenschimmel, Chief Operating Officer, EDF Energy says: “Team Green Britain’s summer of activity has seen thousands of people get behind events up and down the country to come together to pledge their support for a greener future. It’s important that as many of us as possible feel engaged and positive about reducing the human impacts on the environment. That is why EDF Energy kicked off Team Green Britain last year.
“The Eden Project is one of the founding partners of Team Green Britain and we’re once again supporting their annual Big Lunch event, inspiring people to serve up low carbon recipes at their own Big Lunches. As well as opting for local and seasonal produce at your lunch, Team Green Britain ambassador Lauren Laverne’s playlist will provide everyone hosting their own Big Lunch with a perfect musical accompaniment to their day”.
Team Green Britain was founded by EDF Energy, the UK’s largest producer of low carbon electricity, together with London 2012 and two leading environmental organisations, the Eden Project and Global Action Plan. It is hosting a fun-filled summer of inspirational events, bringing communities together to think and act greener. Throughout the summer, the Team Green Britain celebrity ambassadors and a number of Olympic and Paralympic athletes have lent their support and got involved with events across the UK.
The Big Lunch developed by The Eden Project in Cornwall alongside partners including EDF Energy is a chance for different generations and backgrounds to share stories, skills and interests all over the UK, on the same day at the same time, over a good lunch. Last July, hundreds of thousands of people threw their heart and soul into events in 8,263 streets, lanes, parks, car parks, schools, community centres and the like.

About EDF Energy
EDF Energy is one of the UK’s largest energy companies, producing around one-fifth of the nation's electricity from its nuclear, coal and gas power stations, as well as combined heat and power plants and wind farms. The company provides power to a quarter of the Britain’s population via its electricity distribution networks and supplies gas and electricity to more than 5.5 million business and residential customer product accounts.
EDF Energy’s safe and secure operation of its eight existing nuclear power stations at sites across the country makes it the UK’s largest generator of low carbon electricity. EDF Energy is also leading the UK's nuclear renaissance and has published plans to build four new nuclear reactors, subject to the right investment framework. These new plants could generate enough low carbon electricity for about 40% of Britain’s homes. They would make an important contribution to the UK’s future needs for clean, secure and affordable energy. The project is already creating business and job opportunities for British companies and workers.
Through Our Sustainability Commitments, EDF Energy has launched one of the biggest environmental and social programmes of any British energy company. EDF is the official energy utilities partner and sustainability partner of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The company is also helping its customers and others use energy more sustainably through products and initiatives such as Team Green Britain.
EDF Energy is part of EDF Group, one of Europe’s largest power companies. Following the integration with British Energy in 2009, the company employs around 20,000 people at locations across the UK.

About the Eden Project and Big Lunch
The Big Lunch is led by the Eden Project, with the support of a family of partners – The Big Lottery Fund, MasterCard, EDF Energy and the Department of Communities and Local Government.
Once a year, we would like as many people as possible to sit down to lunch together with their neighbours in a simple act of community. Last year, in the first-ever Big Lunch, there were 8,263 registered lunches with an estimated 730,000 people taking part, a good start on a rainy summer Sunday. This year we are encouraging people to pull up a chair for the second Big Lunch on July 18th.
The Eden Project is wholly owned by the Eden Trust, an education charity. Eden uses exhibits and educational programmes to remind people of what nature gives us and to help them learn how to look after it in return. Since fully opening in a former china clay quarry in Cornwall in March 2001, Eden has attracted more than 11 million visitors and generated more than £900 million for the regional economy.
