Whitton United FC’s Under 11s (pictured) and Under 8s have both won donations from EDF Energy Networks’ Team Sport Awards
12 July 2010
Two junior teams at Whitton United Football Club in Ipswich have scored donations from EDF Energy Networks.
The energy company has provided the club’s Youth Under 8s team with £250 to buy a range of training equipment, from training bibs and cones to footballs and tracksuits. The donation was made to the team after EDF Energy Networks telephony manager and Under 8s coach Tony Falcucci applied for a grant under the company’s Team Sport Award scheme.
Within days of securing the donation, Tony, who is based at the company’s Fore Hamlet site, also bagged a brand new football strip for the Under 8s players after winning a sport-related competition in a staff magazine.
Tony said: “EDF Energy Networks’ generous donations are a real boost for our youngest players, who have been putting in lots of training together and are looking forward to taking part in the South Suffolk Youth League against other local U8 sides. Having brand new training equipment and our smart green and white football strip has helped unite the players as a team – and our U8s are thrilled because they look and feel like professional footballers.”
Meanwhile Tony’s colleague Carol Tricker who is a team administrator at Whitton Utd was successful in securing a £250 award for the club’s Under 11s team.
Carol said: “We were lucky enough to be awarded a Team Sports Award two years ago which was used to buy winter gear so we’re delighted to benefit again. I think the scheme is very valuable to local sports clubs.”
Whitton United FC is based at the King George V Playing Field, Old Norwich Road, Ipswich.
Dozens of community and sports groups have benefited from financial assistance from the Team Sport Awards. Last year more than £13,000 was donated to sporting groups connected to EDF Energy Networks staff.
As the first sustainability partner of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games EDF Energy will help ensure London 2012 will be a truly sustainable games, uniting people to address climate changes and leaving a lasting legacy, not just in sport, but through environmental benefits.

Notes to editors:
EDF Energy is one of the UK’s largest energy companies, producing around a fifth of the nation’s electricity from its nuclear, coal and gas power stations, as well as combined heat and power plants and wind farms. The company provides power to a quarter of the UK’s population via its electricity distribution networks and supplies gas and electricity to more than 5.5 million business and residential customers. It is the number one supplier of electricity to major business in the UK.
EDF Energy’s safe and secure operation of its eight existing nuclear power stations at sites across the country makes it the UK’s largest generator of low carbon electricity. EDF Energy is also leading the UK’s nuclear renaissance and has published plans to build four new nuclear reactors, subject to the right investment framework. These new plants would generate enough low carbon electricity for about 40% of Britain’s homes. They would make an important contribution to the UK’s future needs for clean, secure and affordable energy. The project is already creating business and job opportunities for British companies and workers.
Through Our Climate and Social Commitments EDF Energy has launched the biggest environmental and social programme of any UK energy company. EDF is the official energy utilities partner and sustainability partner of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The company is also helping its customers and others use energy more sustainably through products and initiatives such as Read, Reduce, Reward and Team Green Britain.
EDF Energy is part of EDF Group, one of Europe’s largest power companies. Following the integration with British Energy in 2009, the company employs nearly 20,000 people at locations across the UK.
