EDF Energy East of England Media Awards 2011 shortlist announced

The shortlist for the EDF Energy East of England Media Awards 2011 has been announced.

Leading the field is Archant Norfolk with 12 nominations. Essex Chronicle and Archant Suffolk have eight entries on the shortlist and ITV Anglia seven.  Cambridge News, Brentwood Gazette and Peterborough Evening Telegraph have six nominations each and BBC Essex has been shortlisted five times.

The judging panel, which included editors and other senior figures from regional print and broadcast media, analysed and debated the merits of more than 240 entries across categories including newcomer, photographer, sport, business, weekly and daily print reporter of the year, front page, campaign, website and news programme of the year.

A host of weekly papers including Beds on Sunday, St Neots News and Crier, The Hunts Post, Brentwood Gazette, Essex Chronicle, Great Yarmouth Mercury and Welwyn Hatfield Times are vying for awards.

ITV Anglia, BBC East, Heart Essex and BBC Radio Norfolk and Essex are amongst shortlisted broadcasters.

Broadcast journalists are up against print colleagues in newcomer, environmental and sport reporter categories.

The Eastern Daily Press, Ipswich Evening Star, Cambridge News and Norwich Evening News are competing for daily newspaper of the year.
