multi-installation Application Forms and other useful information
Introduction
This web page is published by EDF Energy primarily to provide Application and Commissioning Notification information to Installers (and Developers) of Low Voltage generation with a rating of not more than 16 ampere per phase, so-called Small Scale Embedded Generation (SSEG). EDF Energy's arrangements for connecting larger generation are also described.
In accordance with the Energy Networks Association's G83/1 Engineering Standard for connecting SSEGs, and the Installers' and Distribution Companies' statutory obligations under the Electricity Safety Quality and Continuity Regulations 2002, EDF Energy has made arrangements for managing the Commissioning Notifications for installation of SSEG units and for the Application process for project installation of multiple SSEG units in a particular premise or location, as might occur on development or refurbishment projects. These arrangements are detailed below.
G83 Commissioning Notification
For Developers or Installers installing an SSEG unit, either as a one-off installation or as part of a multi-unit SSEG installation project, EDF Energy requires a notification to be submitted, providing details of each individual SSEG unit before or on the same day the installation is connected.
Please use and complete the notification form provided (see links below) and send to the contact point listed on the commissioning form. It is available either as a Word document or as a PDF.
Please note that notification to the Distributor of the installation of low voltage generation up to 16 Ampere per phase is a legal obligation upon the Installer under regulation 22(2)(c) of the Electricity Safety Quality and Continuity Regulations 2002.
G83 Multi-unit installations
Before EDF Energy permits connection of multiple SSEG units, i.e. as part of a development or refurbishment scheme, we require an application to be submitted by the Developers or Installers for consent from EDF Energy. The application will need to include the details of the intended project as part of the process of obtaining consent from EDF Energy.
The application will enable EDF Energy to plan and to advise you of any works that might be necessary to enable safe connection of the intended number and type of SSEG Units in the given location.

Arrangements for connecting Larger Generation outside the scope of G83/1
Before any party is permitted to connect to EDF Energy's distribution networks any generation larger than that allowed under Energy Networks Association's Engineering Standard G83/1, EDF Energy require the developer or customer to contact EDF Energy as early as possible to discuss requirements and ensure our network is suitable for the connection of the intended generation. EDF Energy will only give consent where the network is suitable and appropriate commercial and safety arrangements have been put in place prior to the connection of such generation.
EDF Energy do not permit connection of the following generation sizes without prior consent:
- Any generation at Low Voltage whose collective rating, intended to be connected to a specific connection point, would exceed 16 Ampere per phase
- Any generation intended to be connected at higher voltages, e.g. High Voltage (HV) or Extra High Voltage (EHV)

Statement on Connection Terms for Low Voltage connected premises
Customers with Low Voltage installations should be aware that their present terms for use of their connection to EDF Energy's Distribution System may require the customer to seek and be granted prior consent from EDF Energy before any source of electricity generation is connected.
EDF Energy hereby affirm that where the Customer's present terms for use of their connection to EDF Energy's Distribution System require prior consent from EDF Energy for the connection of generating equipment to the Customer's premises EDF Energy waives that obligation in the circumstance where the intended sources of electricity generation are to be connected in parallel with EDF Energy's Low Voltage Distribution System and will have an aggregate rating of not more than 16 ampere per phase inclusive of all existing sources of electricity generation connected within the premises subject to the Customer ensuring that the installer (or the Customer by default) shall notify EDF Energy in accordance with the Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations 2002.
For the avoidance of doubt, a person installing sources of electricity generation, for which prior consent is not required from the distributor, remains statutorily obliged to notify EDF Energy in accordance with the Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations 2002 irrespective of the Customer's terms for use of their connection to EDF Energy's Distribution System.
