Helping to address the UK’s energy challenge
Our existing nuclear power plants make a significant contribution to EDF Energy’s sustainable energy policy and the UK energy challenge to create secure, affordable energy at the same time as tackling climate change.
In a typical year our nuclear power stations avoid the emission of over 30 million tonnes of CO2 – the equivalent of removing five out of every eight cars from the UK roads.
Safety is our number one priority. By operating our fleet safely and reliably, we will help maintain the public support and confidence that is essential to building new nuclear generation in the UK.
We currently operate eight nuclear power stations, with a combined capacity of almost 9,000 megawatts. Our eight power stations are:
- Hunterston B
- Hinkley Point B
- Dungeness B
- Hartlepool
- Heysham 1
- Heysham 2
- Torness
- Sizewell B.
