3 Men

We can put it simply for you: we look for ‘pragmatic visionaries’. What we mean by this is that you’ll need imagination, vision and big ideas, to answer the big questions that we face. But that alone won’t be enough. You’ll also need to be able to make things happen, to get things done – to go directly from inspiration to operation.

Relevant qualifications are important, but by no means all you’ll need. (For full details on the qualifications required for each scheme please visit the relevant scheme link.) We’re looking for a special kind of person who shares our way of solving problems and doing business.

As an organisation we have very clear and ambitious goals. We believe that the UK can, with the right effort, have a sustainable energy future that’s good for us, for other countries and for the environment as a whole. We want graduates to join us who are committed, passionate and ready to prove their worth in taking on some of the biggest energy challenges facing UK over the next few years.

“We have consistently committed to play a key role in delivering a low carbon, eco-friendly economy not only as the country’s largest generator of low carbon electricity but also through our own broad based Sustainability Commitments.”
Vincent de Rivaz, EDF Energy CEO.

To achieve this we have to be pragmatic – to take the steps that we need to now to ensure we can achieve our goal. We have to work with existing systems and situations, even as we push to make them more sustainable for the future. We have to be open to new ideas; we have to work strongly as teams; we have to take safety seriously; and we have to have an acute awareness of our impact on communities and the environment. These are qualities we’ll look for in you, too.

What does this mean for you?

It means that you’ll need vision, enthusiasm and ambition. You should be as excited by the challenge that lies ahead as we are. But you will also need the ability to make your ideas work in a modern business environment. You’ll need great communication and relationship skills, impressive commercial acumen and the ability to lead and persuade others. You’ll need to show integrity and respect. And you’ll need the determination to overcome obstacles and the occasional disappointment – and make things happen.
