This scheme is now closed to applications. The 2013 HR Graduate Scheme will open in the Autumn.
Perhaps more than any other industry, the future of energy relies on finding, keeping and developing the best people. And, considering the global challenges we face, we must do this with a sense of urgency. In fact, EDF Energy offers many unique and fascinating HR challenges. We have a large and varied workforce – including field and office-based staff, right across the country.
HR is not just about people. It’s about solving complex business problems. So you’ll enjoy a variety and depth of business insight that few other roles can offer. You’ll also tackle a range of challenging questions. How can we smooth processes throughout such a varied and complex business? How do we overcome an industry-wide skills shortage? How do we recognise, reward and retain the very best people? Our future rests in the answers you’ll find.
Who is it for?
This is ideal for graduates with a 2:1 (or above) in any degree, (particularly Human Resource Management). If you’re already part CIPD-qualified, so much the better. However, most important is your skill set: people who are analytical, great with others, strong at influencing, and who appreciate the importance of HR in the running of a business will thrive here.
What will you be doing?
Over the course of two years, you’ll take on a number of roles and projects across many different business areas. This will allow you to build up a unique view of how EDF Energy works, and explore a number of topics, from resourcing, to operational HR or Talent and Development..
Over this time, you’ll enjoy a range of responsibilities. Generally speaking, you’ll start out in a business area or within our employee services department, where you’ll learn the core processes. Then, you could move onto a series of six-month placements within our business areas: one might place you on operational projects at HR Advisor level; another may give you an insight into more strategic challenges. Beyond that, you could move into employee relations, learning & development and project management.
During the scheme, you’ll also work towards a Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) qualification.
Where you fit in
Because HR is so integral to every part of our business, you could find yourself within any one of our business areas, as well as in our Employee Services Team or People, Organisation & Brand Performance.
To give you an overview: our Energy Sourcing & Customer Supply business is responsible for our power generation plants, buying and selling power and biomass from the markets, managing risk and looks after anything to do with our customers – from meter reading through to call handling. Our Nuclear Generation and Nuclear New Build businesses are key to EDF Energy’s goal of developing a low-carbon energy solution for a sustainable future.
Where you'll be based
Because you’ll rotate between different businesses of EDF Energy, you could be based in one of many locations. For that reason, you’ll need to be flexible about where you work over the duration of the two years. We now have offices in nearly all of areas of England and Scotland.
