This scheme is now closed to applications. The 2013 Finance Graduate Scheme will open in the Autumn.
Finance is at its most interesting in a business that’s growing fast, or an industry that changes rapidly. EDF Energy offers you both. Finance has a say in every decision we make here. And we pride ourselves on taking a future-focused and sensible approach to what can be a volatile market.
As part of the team here, you will learn a tremendous amount. Not just about how EDF Energy works, but about how the energy markets operate; the challenges the industry will need to tackle; and the difficulties companies within it face in order to stay competitive. In other words, through a combination of experience, exposure and training (both within EDF Energy, and as part of the CIMA qualification), you will become far more than simply an accountant.
Who is it for?
Graduates with a 2:1 or above in any degree discipline, but particularly business management, science and analytical subjects. We're after people who are flexible, personable, enthusiastic and able to communicate clearly with all sorts of audiences.
What will you be doing?
You will join a three-year rotational scheme. During your three years you’ll spend time in both corporate finance and business-unit specific teams. Your work will take you to Energy Sourcing and Customer Supply, Nuclear Generation and Nuclear New Build. This will give you exposure to a variety of different roles, and the chance to build up an exceptional foundation of knowledge. You'll also study to become a qualified management accountant with CIMA (the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants).
We involve our finance teams right from the very start in everything we do, so you'll be seen very much as a business enabler. You could be working within a business unit to prepare monthly and quarterly reports. You could get involved in some of our major projects. You could be taking a look at forecasts, budgets or longer-term modelling. You could be examining our operating costs. You could even experience a specialist placement in our Tax, Derivative or Treasury teams.
What's more, we have a great deal of interesting projects to look forward to – not least the London 2012 Olympics.
Where you fit in
You’ll find that at EDF Energy, Finance is fully integrated into virtually every area of the business. This allows us to keep a close eye on the value we’re adding to everything we do.
Corporate Finance is based centrally in our head office, but works closely with individual business unit finance teams to ensure that our work fits with the strategic aims of the company. Doing this means we can pinpoint areas where more attention is needed, and set challenging performance targets that will help us achieve our ambitions for the future. We also have teams who look after regulation, tax, treasury, strategy, procurement and IT. Finance teams within the business units work even more closely with their respective commercial business unit contacts to make sure we deliver budgets and forecast in a robust way. They’re also there to offer financial advice and make sure costs are managed effectively.
Where you'll be based
Because you'll find yourself working within our business units, as well as at our ‘head office', you could be based in one of a few areas. For that reason, you'll need to be somewhat flexible about where you work over the duration of the three years. Here are the locations you might find yourself in:
London (3 offices: our head office, Energy Sourcing business and Nuclear New Build business unit), Hove (one of the bases for our Customer Supply function), Exeter (home to a major hub of our Customer Supply business unit), Barnwood and East Kilbride (home to our Nuclear Generation function).
