What does it involve?

EDF Energy is in a unique position to lead the UK’s nuclear renaissance: we’re at the forefront of new nuclear, but with the integration of British Energy, we’ve also significant experience of managing up and running plants – and of course the decommissioning process. We’re also well placed globally: our parent company, EDF Group is involved in major nuclear new builds all over the world – so the possibilities for the future are immense.

On our Nuclear Science and Engineering internship, you’ll be involved in a project to support our nuclear power stations, taking on a role as part of the team. This is where our teams tackle design engineering, lifetime planning for the reactors, outages and large projects. As such, you’ll find yourself surrounded by highly qualified professionals, taking a broader, more strategic view. There may also be the chance to gain some experience in Civil Engineering and Materials.

Who is it for?

We have high expectations for the students we take on: we’re looking for people who are genuinely interested in nuclear energy, and who want to take ownership of their experience on the internship. We’re eager for you to achieve a great deal – and we want to see that eagerness reflected. You don’t need to be an expert already, but you’ll have a good base understanding from your engineering or science degree.

Where is it based?

You’ll be based at one of our Central Engineering Support Centres in Barnwood, Gloucestershire or East Kilbride, Glasgow working in our Nuclear Generation Business Unit. We consider candidates from all engineering disciples for opportunities in Gloucestershire, but only those studying Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering for roles in Glasgow.
