Training & development

Your apprenticeship will be split into four years, the first two which are spent at HMS Sultan and in the final two you will complete your training on a nuclear power station as part of the Maintenance team.

Years 1 and 2

Based at the Royal Naval base HMS Sultan, you will have access to excellent training facilities. Our academic and workshop training programme will give you an introduction to engineering and develop your skills.

Years 3 and 4

You will return to your base location and join the Maintenance team. Here you will work alongside and assist fully qualified professionals, developing your knowledge and skills whilst completing academic and vocational qualifications.

On completion of your apprenticeship you will be awarded an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship Certificate of Engineering. You will also have attained an ONC/HNC and an NVQ 3 during your apprenticeship, as well as gaining an excellent selection of practical skills to set you up for your career.

At the end of the 4 year scheme, our intention is that you will be appointed to a Maintenance Technician role at your base power station. This will be subject to you completing the scheme to a satisfactory level.
