Hinkley Point C: Creating more than a new power plant
EDF Energy is committed to helping bridge the potential energy gap through investment in an energy mix that balances the needs of low-carbon emissions, security of supply, and affordability. Nuclear power is the most affordable large-scale low-carbon energy source currently available to the UK.
Hinkley Point was identified by government as one of eight sites in the UK potentially suitable for new nuclear power stations.
The new nuclear power station, Hinkley Point C, will provide energy to around five million homes, helping to contribute to the UK's vision of providing safe, reliable, affordable and low carbon energy for the future.
With a strong local focus, the Hinkley Point C project will create a new generation of skilled engineers, thousands of job opportunities for individuals, as well as contract opportunities for local firms it aims to give a real boost to the Somerset and South West economy.
Following three years of consultation, EDF Energy submitted a Development Consent Order application to the Infrastructure Planning Commission in October 2011. Find out more about Hinkley Point C.
