We are proud to welcome British Energy to the EDF Group

The combination of EDF Energy and British Energy forms one of the UK’s largest energy companies.  The combined business is the UK’s largest producer of electricity. With a current installed capacity of around 16.5GW, we produce almost one-quarter of the nation's electricity from our nuclear, coal and gas power stations, as well as combined heat and power plants and wind farms.

Vincent de Rivaz, CEO of EDF Energy, said:

“We have taken the first steps towards creating a strong integrated company in the UK which will play a key role in ensuring the country has secure, affordable and clean energy supplies.

I am delighted to welcome British Energy and its employees into the EDF family. Our shared vision is to build a new organisation which draws on the unrivalled experience of both EDF and British Energy.

This deal is also a key step in EDF’s strategy to play a leading role in the global nuclear revival, in securing a bright future for British Energy and its employees and in bringing forward the new nuclear build in the UK.”

EDF Energy and British Energy together employ nearly 20,000 people at locations across the UK.  The combined companies are the largest electricity generator in the UK, with the lowest carbon emissions per unit of electricity of any major generator.

British Energy and EDF Energy are part of EDF Group, one of Europe’s largest power companies. EDF is the official energy utilities partner and sustainability partner of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games
